Market Research: Louise Candlish & More…

In the run up to the publication of The Only Suspect, we worked closely with the team at Simon & Schuster UK to delve a little deeper into Candlish crime fans, and readers who’d never picked up a book by Louise Candlish as yet. We had questions!

Whilst we are aware we’re not a market research agency, what we do have is a unique angle in that our community are lively, bright, honest, and incredbly loyal. Our 20k Instagram followers alone are engaged, and thrive within the ‘bookstagram’ sphere. If you’re looking to get answers and opinions from voracious readers, whether broad spectrum or within genre, we can certainly help you out there.

Working with Simon & Schuster UK, we devised a 20-question (8-10 minute) google form on everything from colour ways, to tag lines, to general perception, to buzzwords and awareness of Louise Candlish’s work. Within 48 hours, we had over 500 responses, purely through our own promotion of the form on our socials and in our newsletter. our only incentive was that ten people could win a stack of Louise Candlish titles.

To further the challenge, we then analysed the data from the form, and created a second set of questions which we designed for our ‘close friends’ on Instagram Stories. we selected 30 x individuals from our google form respondents and grilled them further, in more detail, over on Instagram.

With both sets of information, we were able to pull together a fully interactive data set and feedback display alongside our own recommendations and points for celebration within the next three, six, and twelve months of the Louise Candlish campaign.

On top of the forms, the ‘close friends’, and the more data-driven exercises, we can also run focus groups for more anecdotal feedback (gathering relevant creators online to feedback on cover design, tag lines, campaign strategies and more.
