Gabriel Garcia Marquez Cover Reveal

One thing the Tandem community knows how to do, very well, is SHOUT ABOUT BOOKS. In this simple cover reveal, we demonstrated how we could turn a request around quickly, effectively and with unmissable results.


The brief: Finding a way to engage readers for an unmissable global announcement of the โ€˜lost novelโ€™ of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, while ensuring that no information slipped out ahead of the worldwide embargo ending. 

How it worked;

  1. Being careful not to give too much away, we sent a newsletter to our global community, requesting a registration of interest for a โ€˜special Gabriel Garcia Marquezโ€™ activity with the incentive of winning a bundle of beautiful rejacketed backlist books

  2. Within twenty-four hours we had over 100 sign ups, and on the day before the announcement we sent a whatsapp alert to everyone letting them know to be ready for the reveal at 12.30pm the next day and that there would be time-sensitive giveaways. 

  3. We shared an eye-catching animated asset via email moments after the embargo had ended and let the participants know that the first x30 people to post would get an early copy of Until August and the first x10 would receive a backlist bundle, once available.

The results:

  1. We had over 75 pieces of content posted within the first 30 minutes, all using the same visuals and tags to ensure peopleโ€™s social feeds were flooded with the news and that the jacket cover would be instantly recognisable for future promotional activity.


The overall feedback from participants was that they loved the uncertainty of what the secret activity would involve and being first in line to announce such exciting news to the book world. This aspect of secrecy in the initial call to action could just as easily be replicated for less well-known authors, as well as ensuring a lot of noise around acquisition news and imprint launches.
